In Isaiah 61 God calls for “proclaiming good news to the poor…binding up the brokenhearted… freedom for the captives…and comfort for those who mourn.” The Somali Bible Society Network is responding to that call by seeking ministry partners who would invest even a small portion of what God has given to them to bring relief to the broken lives of those living in Somalia. A gift of $19 per month or a one-time gift of any size can make a difference to the fatherless, the widows, and the persecuted population of this war-torn country. Seven out of ten Somalis live under the international poverty line. The people of Somalia suffer not only from the pervasive poverty in the country, but as well from extensive violence due to a lack of security for the general population, and especially for the minority Christian community.

Our Vision:

To develop a Network of Partners providing financial and human resources to the ministries of the Somali Bible Society.

Priority Project:

Project # 102852
Good Samaritan Center

This multi-purpose four-story building will be owned and managed by the Somali Bible Society, and will provide 10,000 square feet of office space. This ministry center will be located in one of Somalia’s largest cities, and will become the heart-beat for ministry to widows, orphans, and the poor. Other ministries of the Somali Bible Society, including Bible translation, literacy training, equipping pastors, leaders, and teachers, and making disciples of Jesus Christ, will be coordinated from this ministry center.

Additionally, the facility will generate a monthly rental income that will provide for building maintenance and administrative expenses, so that donor funds will go directly to the needs of the Somali people.

The total cost for land purchase and building construction is estimated at $495,000 USD. Donations of every size are needed to complete this strategic facility.

Widows and Orphans – Project # 102730

The Somali Bible Society is very concerned about the growing numbers of widows and orphans in Somalia. This humanitarian need is expanding greatly because of the many years of civil war and unrest in this country. The minority Christian population is suffering even more than the general population because of the persecution and martyrdom of men and women for their faith.
The need is great but a financial gift of any size will be appreciated and will make a difference.

Child Sponsorship and Adult Literacy – Project #102727

The Somali Bible Society provides Child Sponsorship for needy children for their education and overall development. There are so many children at risk in Somalia. Donations will assure that these children will receive the essentials for their proper development. This fund also provides for Adult Literacy needs. The literacy rate in Somalia is 38%. The plan is to teach 3,000 families how to read and write Somali, their mother tongue. This will help them to read and understand the Bible. Literate people also make more money to support themselves and their families. We are planning a literacy campaign in three major cities of Somalia. The total budget for this project is $148,881 USD. Donors to this Child Sponsorship and Adult Literacy project will receive more information. Donations of any size will be appreciated.

Bible Translation – Project # 102472

The Somali Bible Society recently completed the translation of the Somali New Testament. We have now started the translation of the Old Testament. We intend to complete this translation by 2030 at an estimated cost of $519,372 USD. Donors to this Bible translation project will receive more information. Donations of any size will be appreciated.

Trauma Healing for Persecuted Somali Christians – Project # 103327

The Somali Bible Society provides opportunities for healing for Persecuted Somali Christians who have experienced debilitating trauma. Conferences are held periodically for persecuted Christians to share their stories with others who have experienced trauma and to receive biblical counseling. The annual expense to provide venues, transportation, housing, food, and guest speakers is estimated at $125,000. This is a critical need for those who have suffered for the Gospel. Donations of any size will be appreciated.

The Church on a Camel Back - Project # 102731

A Somali herdsman in eastern Africa told Malcolm Hunter, founder of the Nomadic Peoples Network: “When you can put your church on the back of a camel, then I will believe that Christianity is for us.” Our Somali leaders took this statement to heart. They initiated a strategy that would do just that, put the Church on the back of a camel. The Somali Bible Society (SBS) forms teams of three evangelists, who serve in rotation for about three months at a time as a camel herder. They care for six camels (5 She camels and 1 He camel) that are purchased and owned by the SBS. As they reproduce, the offspring is also owned by the SBS. Each team joins in with other camel herders from their own tribe and clan. The congregate herd is usually around 100 camels. Our evangelists provide for themselves by selling the milk when they come into nearby towns. Relationships are fostered and Jesus is shared. These nomadic and almost impossible-to-reach, camel herders are coming to Christ. The cost of outfitting one team is $6,000. (That’s six camels at $1,000 each). SBS is seeking partners who would like to help support this ministry. A one-time gift of $6,000 supports a team in ongoing ministry to the nomadic Somali people. A gift of any size will be appreciated.
